Yushchenko Urges Crimea to Develop Investment Attraction Strategy

President Viktor Yushchenko issued Decree #725/2009 providing for additional measures for socioeconomic development of Crimea.

The decree has a special focus on investment attraction to Crimea, ordering the Crimean government within six months to draft an investment attraction strategy. The Crimean Council of Ministers is also required within two months to prepare recreation investment projects, quarterly tackle investment attraction problems at sessions of its Collegium, and appoint officers responsible for investment project maintenance, as well as prepare agreements on construction of solid waste treatment facilities in Alushta, Yalta, and Feodosia.

Other measures provided for by the decree, which are pertinent to USAID LINC activities in Crimea, include support of small businesses, ensuring proper operation of permit-issuing authorities, and probable extension of Crimean government powers in tourism.
